About me:
I started going vegetarian and then vegan three years ago, starting October 29, 2004. It's been a shopping odyssey since then! Along the way I have learned how to buy food, personal care products, and household items in a more conscious way. It never dawned on me that other, non-vegetarian types would be interested in knowing the same stuff I figured out on my own the hard way. But for people who are new vegetarians or dealing with food allergies, buying food “like a hippy” is even more easy today than it’s ever been. I found out I was lactose intolerant back when I was a teenager, so I know how difficult it used to be to find decent non-dairy foods!
Today I’m a DJ, freelance writer, and Boston University liberal arts major based in Phoenix, Arizona. (Yes, they let you attend B.U. online now. It’s wild!) I’m also a contributing editor at
Organic Processing Magazine.
I call myself a vegetarian these days because I don’t think I’m vigilant enough to call myself a vegan. I’m also pretty busy, eat out a lot, and tend to travel to small towns often. But I do my best to eat without causing too much harm to my body, our environment, or to animals. While I’m not a model vegan, I do OK. I also prefer organic foods whenever possible and whenever my college student wallet can afford a splurge. It’s actually not so hard to find affordable organic food these days either.
This site will allow me a place to share what I’ve learned about eating/living in a conscious way. Sometimes it may pertain to eating vegetarian, vegan, or organic. Other times, I’ll talk about some new product I tried and loved – or hated. But mostly I want to show people how really simple it is to make healthy choices and that no one ever needs to feel lost or intimidated in their local health food store!
